I have been the official Photographer of the annual Charlottetown Royalty Rotary Supplement for 15 years! I started before I even had kids! For those unfamiliar with it, it is a glossy colour magazine consisting of approximately 450 Island Businesses. Each ad consists of a photograph of the business. The first year I did it there were around 200 so it has really grown!! Looking back I realize just what a fantastic experience it has been. I have met and really gotten to know so many incredible business people, many who have now become excellent clients and friends. This job does not come without it's challenges of course, mainly the coordinating of staff to commit to a time and date to be photographed. Everyone is so busy! I start work on this project early July and shoot until the end of November. It is published in the Spring. John Barrett, the graphic designer and founder/creater of this publication then takes over and inputs all the information, creating the finished product! It is one of Rotary's major annual fundraisers.
Angela and Jeremy were given a very thoughtful gift when they gave birth to their twin boys. The girls chipped in and got them a generous gift certificate for Light & Vision portraits. What a great idea for new parents
I had photographed their wedding almost 6 years ago. That day it was all about them! Yesterday it was all about tthe babies!! What a perfect family....meet Brett and Carsen!
Until next time, LAV
Hell everyone! Sometimes I get a trend of sessions like mostly newborns, grads, etc. This passed week the trend has been One Year olds!! I love this age, at the edge of babyhood and the verge of toddlerhood! It can be challenging depending on how mobile they are but we just make it play time! Mia was a pleasure and let us play dress up! A few days prior to the session she had an unfortunate incident that left a mark on her cheek...no problem! Photoshop is our friend! I remember the 'old' film days when that would have been a reschedule!!!
Here's a few favourites. I was supposed to photograph twin one year old boys today but due to a snow storm it will be tomorrow, thus I have time to blog!! Thought this was a cute set by the window.

Ahhh finally a few moments to catch my breath! I just returned from experiencing my tenth Atlantic Photographic Convention!! Ten years ago I went to Moncton all by myself and didn't know anyone. Very quickly I was made to feel a part of them and have made such amazing friendships and learned so much through attending the many educational seminars.
A big part of the conventions is the Image Salon (formerly known as the 'Print Salon'). A panel of 5 judges regional and national sit in a row in a darkened room and judge the work. Very intense!! They are rated Unaccepted Accepted Merit or Excellent. When the judges score varies they discuss and try to convince the others to go up or come down. The images are anonymous and if they know the maker they cannot judge it. It is open to the public.
Well I didn't fall off the face of the earth but have just finished creating and updating my new website. My technical support guy, er husband Blair told me not to use the blog until it was done so you can blame him!!
Well I do admit that I tend not to book any weddings between October and May but know this lovey family and appreciated that they wanted me to document their special day. Since it was before the holidays I decided to go for it. What a fantastic day....if all winter weddings were like theirs I would definitely be a winter wedding photographer. They were so smart and planned it so we did all of the photographs before the 4pm ceremony, when there was still daylight! Then after the wedding ceremony at the lovely Cherry Valley Church we all headed straight for the reception at the cozy Charlottetown Hotel. No big gap for the guests, how nice!
Everything was beautiful, from the weather to the flowers, to the bride's family home, people, hotel etc! Here are some highlights. Congrats and thanks for a great day Rob and Elizabeth!
Until next time, LAV!
There are so many great things about my profession. One of which is really getting to know people and share in the most wonderful of lifes experiences with them. Krista and Brodie had me photograph their wedding and now have chosen the Baby Story package so I have done their maternity and just yesterday their newborn session at their lovely home.
Here's a couple of favs!

The last time I saw little Ellen was back in April. What a sweet little lady she's becoming! She's going to be a big sister in just a few weeks so she and her Mom came in this morning for some maternity portraits. They have a lot of beautiful photos of Ellen from our first session so this time the focus was on Mom/belly and Ellen. We did a variety of studio and window light shots of Mom/belly, Mom/baby/belly etc. She's 19 months old so pretty busy but she did great. I got my daughter to come up and keep an eye on her while I photographed Mom alone (a real treat for my Jillian!). Saturday sessions are handy that way! We had been shooting for almost two hours but it didn't feel like it...I totally lost track of time!! Anyway, after we were finished we decided at the last minute to get her to try on one of my new little tutus. So cute!! These are all available light as the studio lights were not set up at this point and I had to move quickly!!
